Washington DC - April 24 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that lamb producers, feeders, seedstock producers, and first handlers of lamb and lamb products who voted in a national referendum, Feb. 2-27, 2009, have approved  the Lamb Checkoff Program.

Washington DC -April 15- USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack today held a roundtable discussion with a variety of stakeholders representing the full spectrum of views on the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). The event kicks off a listening tour to gather feedback and input that will assist the Secretary in making decisions about the future direction of animal identification and traceability in the United States.

Washington DC - August 27- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) published its Interim Final Rule for Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) in the August 1 Federal Register. The agency is accepting public comment until September 30, and the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) is urging those who wish to comment to do so soon.

Washington DC -May 27- USDA Secretary Ed Schafer has announced that USDA has authorized certain acreage enrolled under the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) to be available for hay and forage after the primary nesting season ends for grass-nesting birds.
