Washington DC -July 14- Recent passage of the 2008 Farm Bill included funding for conservation and environmental programs. Robert Bonnie with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) talks about efforts to improve wildlife habitat, including the rare Ocelot in South Texas, and EDF’s concern with taking land setaside for conservation and allowing its return to agricultural uses, such as haying, grazing, and crop production. Washington DC -July 1- U.S. Transportation Deputy Secretary Thomas J. Barrett has announced that the University of Minnesota will be home to a new national clearinghouse for information about the best way to make rural roads safer.
Washington DC -May 8- Members of the U.S. House-Senate Farm Bill Conference Committee today moved one step closer to approving a farm bill. Principle negotiators announced they have reached an agreement on the new farm bill.
Washington DC -May 5- Congress might have enough votes to overide a threatened veto of the Farm Bill should it come to that, Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-North Dakota), told WashingtonView Radio in an exclusive interview at the U.S. Capitol.
Pomeroy, a member of the House Agriculture Committee AND House Ways and Means Committee and a key player in the marathon negotiating sessions, said the Farm Bill has bipartisan support, and he hopes the President avoids a showdown with Congress and signs the bill into law.
