WASHINGTON, July 16 – Builder confidence in the market for newly built single-family homes fell for a third consecutive month in July, according to the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), released today. The HMI fell below its previous record low of 18 in June to a new record low of 16 in July, with each of its three component indexes also hitting record lows.
Washington DC -July 16- On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI-U advanced 1.1 percent in June, following a 0.6 percent increase in May. The index for energy rose sharply for the second straight month, increasing 6.6 percent in June following a 4.4 percent increase in May.
Washington DC -May 26- Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) continued to encourage Iowans to fight back against a D.C.-hatched attack on ethanol.
Washington DC -May 8- Members of the U.S. House-Senate Farm Bill Conference Committee today moved one step closer to approving a farm bill. Principle negotiators announced they have reached an agreement on the new farm bill.
Washington DC -May 6- The mandate by Congress to utilize a key food ingredient as the dominant input for biofuels has inextricably coupled food to fuel prices, driving up costs for consumers and affecting the economy, said AMI President and CEO J. Patrick Boyle in testimony submitted to the House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality.
Washington DC -May 5- Congress might have enough votes to overide a threatened veto of the Farm Bill should it come to that, Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-North Dakota), told WashingtonView Radio in an exclusive interview at the U.S. Capitol.
Pomeroy, a member of the House Agriculture Committee AND House Ways and Means Committee and a key player in the marathon negotiating sessions, said the Farm Bill has bipartisan support, and he hopes the President avoids a showdown with Congress and signs the bill into law.

Washington DC -May 1- National Farmers Union President Tom Buis today recognized that high food prices are adversely affecting American families, especially those in the low and middle class, but said record high energy prices, rather than farm commodity prices, play the biggest role in grocery price increases.
