Washington DC - November 24 - The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index®, which had declined in October, increased slightly in November. The Index now stands at 49.5 (1985=100), up from 48.7 in October.

Washington DC - June 3 - National Farmers Union strongly urged the U.S. Trade Representative to defend mandatory country of origin labeling (COOL) against a World Trade Organization (WTO) challenge. The Canadian and Mexican governments claim the labeling law violates existing WTO obligations.

Washington DC - May 6 - The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) stated that in the first three months of 2009, deliveries of general aviation airplanes totaled 462 units, a 41.1 percent drop from the same period last year, with industry billings falling 18.2 percent to $4.34 billion.

Washington DC -December 3- The Canadian government yesterday requested formal consultations under the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement process against the U.S. mandatory country of origin labeling (COOL) law for meat products required by the 2008 Farm Bill, according to the National Farmers Union (NFU).

The Canadian government alleges the labeling law creates undue trade restrictions.

Washington DC - August 27- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) published its Interim Final Rule for Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) in the August 1 Federal Register. The agency is accepting public comment until September 30, and the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) is urging those who wish to comment to do so soon.
