Washington DC -July 14- Recent passage of the 2008 Farm Bill included funding for conservation and environmental programs. Robert Bonnie with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) talks about efforts to improve wildlife habitat, including the rare Ocelot in South Texas, and EDF’s concern with taking land setaside for conservation and allowing its return to agricultural uses, such as haying, grazing, and crop production. Washington DC -April 21- Getting a Farm Bill passed yet this year is a top priority for the National Farmers Union (NFU). Tom Buis, President of NFU, told WashingtonView Radio today that the House and Senate need to come to an agreement soon.

Washington DC -March 14- More than 100 agricultural organizations and livestock auction yards from around the country sent a letter this week to U.S. Senate leaders to seek help to prevent the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) from implementing its proposed rule to allow Canadian cattle over 30 months (OTM) of age into the United States. Washington DC -March 8- The Canadian government has confirmed that its latest case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was in an Alberta bull born in 2000 – well beyond the 1997 implementation of Canada’s feed ban – and well beyond March 1, 1999, the date after which the Canadian feed ban was previously hoped to have become effective, according to R-CALF USA.
